WILLIAMSBURG—The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers ended their regular season with three games this past week as they welcomed the South Ottawa Blues on Wednesday night, travelled to Ottawa on Thursday to take on the East Nepean Green Eagles and welcomed the Kanata Blue Cubs on Sunday night.

Blue Cubs 15 Pioneers 1

The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers welcomed the Kanata Blue Cubs to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Wed., Aug. 14, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. After a great start to their season, the Pioneers have dropped their past four games and slid to seventh place in the standings. 

The Cubs got on the score sheet first scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers got one back in the bottom of the first but left the bags loaded. The Cubs went three up and three down in the top of the second inning but the Pioneers failed to take advantage just getting four to the dish. 

The Cubs scored three in the top of the third inning and the Pioneers’ bats remained quiet in the bottom of the inning going three up and three down. The Pioneers defence let them down in the top of the fifth inning allowing the maximum five runs in the top of the fifth. 

The Pioneers got their first three batters on the bags in the bottom of the fifth but the next three struck out. The Cubs took the game 15-1 ending the Pioneers regular season with five consecutive losses. Scoring the lone run for the Pioneers was Aiden Hutt. 

Pitching for the Pioneers were Cam Shaver with 20 pitches, Brady Barrie with 20, Nick Guy with 20, Alek Larocque with 40 and Aiden Hutt with 25.

Green Eagles 13 Pioneers 2

The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers travelled to the Grenfell Ball Park in Ottawa to take on the East Nepean Green Eagles on Thurs., Aug. 15, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers went into the match as the losers of three consecutive games and were short benched to boot, with just nine players as they looked to turn things around. 

The Pioneers got two runners in scoring position in the top of the first inning but were unable to score. The Eagles took advantage scoring five runs in the bottom of the first taking a 5-0 lead into the second inning. 

The Pioneers went three up and three down in the top of second. The Eagles scored three more runs in the bottom of the second taking an 8-0 lead into the third inning. Again, the Pioneers went three up and three down in the top of the third. 

The Pioneers’ defence picked it up in the bottom of the third striking out two of the first three batters and a forced play at first base but trailed 8-0 at the end of three. The Pioneers got their second hitter to third base but they were unable to get him home in the top of the fourth inning. The Eagles put the game out of reach scoring three more runs in the bottom of the fourth taking an 11-0 lead into the fifth inning. The Pioneers had their best offensive inning scoring two runs leaving two runners on the bags. 

The Eagles added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, taking the game 13-2. The Pioneers were handed their sixth loss and fourth consecutive loss of the regular season. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Terrence Mudde and Seb Lafrance.

Blues 10 Pioneers 3

The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers welcomed the South Ottawa Blues to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Wed., Aug. 14, in the Ontario District 2 Little League. After dropping their previous two games, the Pioneers looked to get back on the winning track. 

The Blues took the early lead scoring two runs in the top the first inning. The Pioneers got two runners in scoring position but were unable to cash them, as the Blues took a 2-0 lead into the second inning. 

The Blues went three up and three down in the top of the second. The Pioneers loaded up the bases in the bottom of the second but were only able to score one of them leaving the bases juiced. The Blues restored their two-run lead, scoring a single in the top of the third inning but the Pioneers scored two in the bottom of the third tying the game at three. 

The Blues retook the lead scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning and their defence held the Pioneers lone runner at third base in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 5-3 lead into the fifth inning. 

The Blues blew the game wide open in the top of the fifth inning, scoring the maximum five runs leaving two runners in scoring position. The Pioneers went three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Blues took the game 10-3, handing the Pioneers their fifth loss of the season. 

Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Nick Guy, Cam Shaver and Caleb Machan.
