CHESTERVILLE—Red welcomed Green in the third round of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League’s playoffs in the opening game on Thursday night, and Blue played host to Yellow in the night cap.

In the opening game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League’s round three of the playoffs, Red played host to Green on Thurs., Aug. 15, at the Chesterville Arena. Red went into the game with a one and one record after winning their opening game against Yellow but dropping their second game against Blue; while Green sat with the same record after losing their opener to Blue and scoring an upset victory over Yellow in their second game.
The winner of this game will move on to face Blue who have already clinched first in the round robin with two wins. The teams battled to a scoreless first period and took a zero- zero stalemate into the second period.
Red opened the scoring when Stephanie Shane pounded one home from the blue line from Marlee Wert at 6:55 of the second period taking a 1-0 lead. Green carried the play but could not find the back of the net as the clock wound down and the buzzer sounded.
Red took a 1-0 lead into the third period. Red took a two-goal lead when Wert scored on a breakaway at 8:49 of the third period unassisted. Green pressed to score but were thwarted at every attempt as Red pulled out the victory 2-0.
Picking up the shutout in Red’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin and suffering the loss in Green’s goal was Roxanne Crump.

In the second game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League’s round robin playoff, Blue hosted Yellow. Blue went into the game with the number one seed after winning their first two games and knew they would be facing Red in the A final the following week.
Yellow had nothing to gain in their game either as they knew their opponent for the B final would be Green. Blue opened the scoring when Kara Bartholomew snapped one home from Lindsay Cummins at 16:53 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead.
Blue took the 1-0 lead into the second period. Bartholomew scored her second of the game at 3:50 of the second period from Laura Rushford to give Blue a 2-0 lead. Blue added to their lead when Bartholomew completed her hat trick at 8:42 from Kaila Beckstead and Rebecca Kennedy and took a 3-0 lead into the third period.
Blue increased their lead to four when Bartholomew scored her fourth of the game from Kennedy just 1:24 into the second period. Blue closed out the scoring when Rushford banged one home from Beckstead and Cummins at 4:32.
Yellow tried to close the gap but Blue was having none of it as they hung on to take the game 5-0. Picking up the shutout in Blue’s goal was Olivia Salmon and suffering the loss in Yellow’s goal was Terri Smith.

In the first game of the evening on Tues., Aug. 20, in the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League for the A final, Blue will play host to Yellow at 7 p.m. and in the B final at 8 p.m. Green will welcome Yellow at the Chesterville Arena.
