OTTAWA—The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers had three games scheduled this past week but their game on Wednesday night against the Kanata Blue Jays was postponed due to rain. The Pioneers travelled to Ottawa on Saturday to take on the East Nepean Green Eagles and to Ottawa on Sunday to take on the Ottawa West Twins.
Pioneers 15 Twins 5
The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers travelled to the Pinecrest Ball Park in Ottawa on Sun., Aug. 11, to take on the Ottawa West Twins in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers went into the game in fourth place with a record of 4-1-3 while the Twins sat in eighth place with a record of 2-7.
The Pioneers opened the scoring with a single in the top of the first inning getting five batters to the plate. The Twins got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the inning but were unable to bring him home.
The Pioneers’ bats came to life in the top of the second inning scoring the maximum five runs taking a 6-0 lead. They got a base runner to second base but again, the Pioneers’ defence held. The Pioneers scored four more runs in the top of the third inning, getting eight batters to the plate.
The Twins’ offence finally got on the board scoring three runs in the bottom of the third inning but trailed 10-3 heading into the fourth inning. The Pioneers added a single in the top of the fourth inning leaving a runner in scoring position.
The Twins scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it an 11-5 game. The Pioneers scored four more runs in the top of the fifth inning and mercies the Twins by a score of 15-5. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Terrence Mudde with three, Cam Shaver, Mason Hummel and Caleb Machan with two each and Seb Lafrance, Nick Guy, Nate Thompson, Dawson Coleman, Marty McLeod and James Martens with singles.
Eagles 11 Pioneers 3
The Williamsburg Junior Pioneers travelled to the Ron Milks Ball Park in Ottawa on Sat., Aug. 10, to take on the East Nepean Green Eagles in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers sat in third place in the standings and looked to put some distance between themselves and six other teams that were tied for fourth.
The Pioneers didn’t get the start they wanted going three up and three down in the top of the first inning. The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning taking a 3-0 lead into the second inning.
The Pioneers got runners in scoring position but three of the five batters struck out in the top of the second. The Eagles added a single in the bottom of the inning taking a 4-0 lead into the third inning.
The Pioneers had a slightly better inning in the top of the third, getting five batters to the dish and scoring one. The Eagles’ offence kicked in for the maximum five runs in the bottom of the third taking a 9-1 lead. The Pioneers got two runs back in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to four but the Eagles scored two in the bottom of the inning taking an 11-3 lead.
The Pioneers got a runner on third base in the top of the fifth but were unable to get him to cross the plate as they dropped the game 11-3. Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Nick Guy, Marty McLeod and Caleb Machan.
