BROCKVILLE—The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers got their season off to a good start with a 12-2 win over the Mississippi Whitecaps and were leading in their second game against the Carleton Russell Aces before it got rained out. The Pioneers travelled to Brockville for a doubleheader against the Braves on July 14.

Braves 9 Pioneers 7

The Williamsburg Senior Pioneers travelled to Brockville on Sun., July 14, to take on the Braves for a double header in the Ontario District 2 Little League. The Pioneers were coming off a game they would have liked to finish as they were leading the Carleton Russell Aces 4-0 before the rain washed out the game after just one inning. 

The Pioneers went with only eight players due to other commitments. The Pioneers got off to a good start, scoring two runs in the top the first inning and held the Braves to just one hit on four batters in the bottom of the inning taking a 2-0 lead into the second inning. 

The Pioneers only managed to get four batters to the plate in the top of the second inning and left one in scoring position. The Braves cut the deficit to one, after scoring a single in the bottom of the second and trailed 2-1 heading into the third inning. 

The Pioneers increased their lead, scoring two more runs in the top of the third to make it 4-1. The Braves got two runners in scoring position but were unable to cash them as the Pioneers’ defence came up big in the bottom of the third. 

The Pioneers only got four batters to the dish in the top of the fourth inning with only one making it on the bags. The Braves cut the deficit in half with a single in the bottom of the fourth but trailed 4-2 heading into the fifth inning. 

The Pioneers got two runners into scoring position but were unable to get any across the plate after six batters. The Braves tied the game scoring a pair in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Pioneers retook the lead scoring a single in the top of the sixth inning but the Braves scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, stealing the game 9-7. 

Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Nolan Henry with three, Spencer Barclay with a pair and Kayne McCadden and Kolby Latulippe. Pitching for the Pioneers were Colin VanHoof with 88 pitches and Henry with 58.

Braves 11 Pioneers 1

In the second game of the afternoon, the Williamsburg Senior Pioneers tried to get back in the winning column after dropping their opener to the Brockville Braves 9-7 in the last inning. The Pioneers went three up and three down in the top of the first inning and the Braves took advantage scoring three in the bottom of the first taking a 3-0 lead. 

The Pioneers only got three to the dish in the top of the second but this time their defence held the Braves off the score sheet in the bottom of the inning but trailed 3-0 heading into the third inning. The Pioneers got a runner to third base but weren’t able to score him in the top of the third. 

The Braves made it 4-0 with a single in the bottom of the fourth but left the bases juiced. The Pioneers got runners on second and third bases in the top of the fourth inning but were unable to bring them home. 

The Braves blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth scoring the maximum five runs taking an 11-0 lead. The Pioneers scored a single in the top of the fifth inning but the Braves scored a pair in the bottom of the fifth, taking the game 11-1. 

Scoring the lone run for the Pioneers was Colby Latulippe. Pitching for the Pioneers were Brayden Barrie with 91 and Emytt Fetterly with 35.
