CHESTERVILLE—Blue welcomed Red in the opening game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League in the first game of the evening on Thursday night and Green was the host to Yellow in the late game.

In the first game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., July 4, Blue played host to Red at the Chesterville Arena. Blue went into the game just one point ahead of Red in the top spot in the standings, just 17 points to 16.
Blue opened the scoring at 6:47 into the first period as Kaila Beckstead slapped one home from Leigh Ann Dearing taking a 1-0 lead. Blue made it 2-0 when Rebecca Kennedy pounded one to the back of the net from Kara Bartholomew and Lindsay Cummins at 8:14. Blue took a three-goal lead just 59 seconds later as Cummins slipped one home from Bartholomew. Blue was relentless and at 11:30 they took a 4-0 lead as Beckstead scored her second of the game from Dearing. Blue took the 4-0 lead into the second period.
Blue made it 5-0 when Beckstead completed her hat trick from Lindsay Waddell at 1:28 of the second period. Red got on the score sheet with just 1:41 remaining in the second as Steph Dafoe snapped one to the back of the net off a rebound and the back boards from Jessica Rutley and Stephanie Shane but trailed 5-1 heading into the third period.
Red closed the gap to three when Shane sniped one from Laura Melenhorst at 5:44. Blue regained a four-goal lead at 9:40 as Cummins scored her second of the game from Kennedy and Bartholomew and restored a five-goal lead when Bartholomew lit the lap from Kennedy and Waddell with just 25 seconds remaining in the game.
Blue took the game 7-2, moving three points ahead of Red heading into week 13. Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Terri Smith and suffering the loss in Red’s goal was Cashelle Baldwin.
Green 3 Yellow 1
Yellow went into the game in third place, 10 points behind second place Red and just three up on fourth place Green.
The teams battled to a scoreless first period but Green opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the second period as Carly Crump rifled one home from Selena Shane and Heather Erwin taking a 1-0 lead. Green carried the 1-0 lead into the second period.
Yellow knotted the affair at 3:45 of the third period as Cinnamon Boulanger blasted one to the back of the net from Alex Roach and Jodie Hall. Green retook the lead when Jackie Morris scored an unassisted goal just 25 seconds later making 2-1.
Green closed out the scoring when Morris scored her second of the night from Janice Casselman at 11:16. Green took the game 3-1. With the win, Green moved to within one point of Yellow for third place.
Picking up the win in Green’s goal was Roxanne Crump and suffering the loss in Yellow’s goal was Terri Smith.
