METCALFE—The South Grenville Rangers opened their NCJHL quarterfinal series against the Metcalfe Jets with two games this past weekend, as they welcomed the Jets on Saturday night for game one and travelled to Metcalfe Sunday afternoon for game two.
Rangers 7 Jets 4
The South Grenville Rangers travelled to the Larry Robinson Arena in Metcalfe on Sun., Feb. 24, to take on the Jets in game two of the best of seven NCJHL quarterfinal. The Rangers took game one convincingly with a 10-4 victory and looked to go up two games to none.
The Rangers opened the scoring when Mathieu Giroux scored from Joe MacLean and Brayden Forestell at 9:38 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Rangers made it 2-0 when Forestell scored from Zach Hotte and Carson Pickup at 12:38 but the Jets cut the deficit in half when Jarrett Ladouceur scored form Mark Morrison at 15:07. The Rangers took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Jets tied the game when Morrison scored an unassisted goal at 6:59 and took their first lead of the game at the 11-minute mark as Tristan Staff launched one from the blue line from Aidan Daly and Tyler Boyd.
The Rangers tied the game when Tristan Loomis scored from Cameron Dillon and Pickup at 14:54. The Rangers retook the lead when Loomis slapped one home from the blue line from Dillon at 15:30. The Rangers took a 4-3 lead into the second intermission.
The Rangers made it 5-3 when Cole Edgley scored from Dillon and Brody Ranger at 10:24 of the third period. The Rangers took a three-goal advantage when Forestell scored from Pickup and Hotte at 11:32.
The Jets cut the deficit to two at 16:58 as Boyd scored from Staff and Ladouceur but the Rangers closed out the scoring with 1:20 showing on the clock in regulation as Hotte scored for the Rangers. The Rangers took the game 7-4; and, a two games to none series lead.
Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Lee Spurgeon and suffering the loss in the Jets’ goal was Dominik Turcotte.
Rangers 10 Jets 4
The South Grenville Rangers welcomed the Metcalfe Jets to the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal on Sat., Feb. 23, for game one of their NCJHL quarterfinal. The South Grenville Rangers finished the regular season in first place in the West Division which qualified for second place in league standings as they took on the Jets who finished in seventh overall.
The Jets opened the scoring when Tyson Sherrer scored from Jarrett Ladouceur and Alex Cloutier just 1:32 into the first period. The Rangers tied the game at 2:40 as Brayden Forestell scored from Mathieu Giroux and Carson Pickup.
The Rangers took their first lead of the game when Zach Hotte scored from Forestell and Cameron Dillon at 10:58 and took a two-goal lead at 11:22 as Jacob McGonegal scored from Forestell and Jordan Poulan. The Rangers took a three-goal lead when Carson Pickup scored an unassisted goal at 12:44 and took a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
The Rangers kept the pressure on the Jets and made it 5-1 as Cole Edgley scored just 1:05 into the second period from Hotte and Tristan Loomis on the power play and 6-1 as Jordan Dodge scored from Jared Fenlong and Loomis at 13:12.
The Jets cut the deficit to four as Ladouceur scored from Josh Boice and Alex MacNeil on the power play at 13:51 but the Rangers restored their five-goal lead when Dillon scored from Noah Edmonds and Loomis on the power play at 17:44. The Rangers took a 7-2 lead into the second intermission.
The Rangers made it 8-2 just 31 seconds into the third period as Dodge scored his second of the game from Loomis and Hotte. The Jets got that one back at 6:04 as Austin Gough fired one home from Aidan Daly and Cam Gallant to make it 8-3.
The Rangers made it 9-3 when Hayden Sayeau scored an unassisted goal at 7:50. The Jets answered as Gallant scored from Devon Upton at 15:39 but the Rangers closed out the scoring with 1:58 remaining as Fenlong scored from Brody Ranger and Edgley and took the game 10-4.
Picking up the win in the Rangers’ goal was Lee Spurgeon and suffering the loss in the Jets’ goal was Tyler Desjardins.
