RICHMOND—The Casselman Vikings played three games this past week as they travelled to Brockville on Wednesday night to take on the Tikis, welcomed the Embrun Panthers on Thursday night and travelled to Richmond on Sunday afternoon to take on the Royals.
Vikings 4 Royals 1
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Richmond Arena on Sun., Dec. 2, to take on the Royals in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off a narrow 3-2 victory over the Embrun Panthers to move to within eight points of the first place Ottawa Jr. Canadians and had a chance to move to within six points but the Canadians were also playing elsewhere.
The Vikings opened the scoring with just 25 seconds remaining in the first period as Louis Chabot scored his eighth goal of the season from Joel Hunt and Pierce Britton and took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Vikings made it 2-0 at 10:39 of the second period when Brandon Legare scored his sixth of the season from Samuel Labre. Hunt scored his 20th of the season at 17:36 unassisted to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.
The Vikings took the 3-0 lead into the second intermission. The Vikings made it 4-0 when Gabriel Rousselle scored his sixth of the season from Antonio Silenu and Shawn Patterson on the power play at 12:19 of the third period.
The Royals spoiled the Vikings’ goalie, Mathieu Chenier’s shut out bid with just 48 seconds remaining in the game but the Vikings took the game 4-1. With the win, the Vikings move back to within eight points of the Canadians in first place.
The Vikings outshot the Royals 51-35. Picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Chenier making 34 saves.
Vikings 3 Panthers 2
The Casselman Vikings welcomed the Embrun Panthers to the J. R. Brisson Complex on Thurs., Nov. 29, in the CCHL2. The Vikings were coming off a 6-4 victory over the Brockville Tikis and moved to within 10 points of the Ottawa Jr. Canadians who sat in first in the Martin Division.
The Vikings scored the lone goal the first period as Joshua Paledeau scored his eighth goal of the season from Kyle Green at 3:03 of the first period. Neither team was able to score before the buzzer went off representing the end of the first period.
The teams battled to a scoreless second period with the Panthers narrowly outshooting the Vikings 14-13. The Vikings took the 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Vikings made it 2-0 when Joel Hunt scored his 19th of the season from Shawn Patterson and Louis Chabot on the power play just 31 seconds into the third period. The Panthers cut the deficit in half when Alexandre Caron scored his second of the season from Cayden Martin at 1:44.
The Panthers tied the game at 13:32 when Marc Brosseau scored his seventh of the season from Caron and Jeremy Cyr on the power play. The Vikings retook the lead when Jason Cossette scored his 10th of the season from Antonio Silenu and Pierce Britton with 3:41 remaining in regulation.
With under a minute remaining, the Panthers pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker but were unable to tie the game before the third period expired. The Vikings hung on for a 3-2 victory moving to within eight points of the Canadians in first place.
The Vikings outshot the Panthers 40-31. Picking up the win in the Vikings’ goal was Nick Campbell making 29 saves and suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was Cody McEachern making 37 saves.
Vikings 6 Tikis 4
The Casselman Vikings travelled to the Brockville Memorial Centre on Wed., Nov. 28, to take on the Tikis in the CCHL2. The Vikings fell back 12 points behind the first place Ottawa Jr. Canadians in the Martin Division.
The Tikis opened the scoring at 13:58 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Vikings tied the game with just 1:02 remaining in the opening frame as Mikael Bissonnette scored his second goal of the season from Louis Chabot.
The teams took a one-all deadlock into the first intermission. The Vikings took their first lead of the game when Antonio Silenu scored his fifth of the season from Shawn Patterson and Joel Hunt on the power play at 4:23 of the second period.
The Vikings made it 3-1 when Jason Cossette scored his eighth of the season from Joshua Paledeau and Mathieu Talbot at 9:54. Cossette scored his second goal of the game and ninth of the season at 12:55 from Pierce Britton and Etienne Aguis-Pease to give the Vikings a 4-1 lead.
The Tikis got one back at 15:10 but the Vikings regained their three-goal lead when Hunt scored his 17th of the season from Chabot and Patterson and took a 5-2 lead into the second intermission. The Tikis got to within two at 6:38 of the third period on the power play and within one at 8:27 but Hunt scored his second of the game and 18th of the season from Patterson and Chabot into an empty goal with just 32 seconds remaining after the Tikis pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker.
The Vikings took the game 6-4 moving to within 10 points of the Canadians. The Vikings outshot the Tikis 38-30 and picking up the win in goal was Nick Campbell making 26 saves.
