EMBRUN—The Embrun Panthers played two home games this weekend as they welcomed the Athens Aeros on Friday night and the Renfrew Timberwolves on Sunday afternoon.
Panthers 4 Timberwolves 2
The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Renfrew Timberwolves to the Palais des Sports on Sun., Sept. 30, for a main game in the CCHL2. The Panthers were coming off a tough 4-2 loss to the Athens Aeros in their previous game and were still looking for their first victory of the season. The Panthers opened the scoring when Alex Rossides slapped one home from the blue line for his first goal of the campaign at 3:17 of the first period from Philippe Plante and Brandon Paquette on the power play to take a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers made it 2-0 when Nathan Brown banged home a rebound at 11:50 from Jeremy Cyr and Benjamin Hamilton. The Panthers added to the lead when Connor Drost scored on a wrap-around at 13:04 from Rossides and Marc Brosseau. The Panthers took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. The Timberwolves finally got on the score sheet just 41 seconds into the second period scoring a short-handed goal to make it 3-1.
The Panthers restored their three-goal lead when Drost scored his second goal of the game at 7:19 from Paquette and Hamilton on the power play. The Panthers took a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. The Timberwolves scored the lone goal of the third period at 6:25 but the Panthers hung on for their first victory of the season. The Panthers outshot the Timberwolves 41-28 and picking up the win in goal was Joshua Ivanski making 26 saves on 28 shots.
Aeros 4 Panthers 2
The Embrun Panthers welcomed the Athens Aeros to the Palais des Sports on Fri., Sept. 28, in the CCHL2. The Panthers went into the game with just a single point on the season after four games with a loss in overtime in their past game against the Whitewater Kings. The Aeros scored the lone goal of the first period just 1:29 into the first period taking a 1-0 lead. The Panthers outshot the Aeros 11-8 but trailed 1-0 heading into the first intermission. The Panthers knotted the affair when Connor Drost scored his third goal of the season from Benjamin Hamilton at 9:23 on the power play. The Panthers again dominated on the shot clock 19-7 but were only able to get one to the back of the net heading into the second intermission. The Aeros retook the lead just 19 seconds into the third period and made it 3-1 at 1:38 on the power play. The Aeros took a 4-0 lead at the four-minute mark but the Panthers’ Griffin Patterson pounded home his first goal of the season at 5:23 to make it 4-2 from Marc Brosseau and Alan Njima. The play in the rest of the game was very tight and the Panthers were unable to get any closer as the Aeros took them 4-2. The Panthers outshot the Aeros 38-21. Suffering the loss in the Panthers’ goal was Cody MacEachern making 17 saves on 21 shots.
