Dixon Family keeps Terry Fox memory alive
The Dixon Family was one of the first families involved with the Chesterville Rotary Club’s Terry Fox Run. The family has had members dating back to1980 before the Rotary Club became involved. MAPLE RIDGE—The Chesterville Rotary Club hosted their annual Terry Fox Run on Sun., Sept. 16, at the North Dundas District High School. This was the Rotary Club’s 37th year helping out with the Terry Fox Run which celebrated its 38th year in total.
There were 65 participants who walked, ran or biked the 10 km route on a hot but beautiful late summer day. The route began at the high school and headed west to Rae Rd., then south to Baker Rd., east to Ball Rd. north to Highway 43 to head west back to the high school.
The participants raised $14,332 this year which was up from the $12,530 raised in 2017. Chuck Gray of Chesterville (aka Corn Man) donated $2,000 to the cause and was named top participant this year.
The Mulder family raised $950, the Dixon Family raised $4,402 with Eva Gentle raising $2,412 on her own but part of the Dixon family pledge and it was her eighth year of participating in the Chesterville Run.
Other participants that the club recognized were community members, Rudy and Toinel Cornelissen, the Andrea Thompson Family, Angie Francis and her granddaughter, Charlotte, brothers, Adrian and Hanspeter Eckert, Patricia Mousette and family, Jim Baker, Valerie Bolton, The Road Runners, Dwight Symond, Daniel Buckle, Bernard and Thea Chouinard, Barbara Duval (of Germany), Margie Nyman and Harmony Koiter.
The total online pledges and 37th Terry Fox Run Chesterville/Winchester 36th Run totalled up to $4,245 this year. Prior to the run, the Chesterville Rotary Club received a special award in recognition of raising over $250,000 throughout the 37 years they have been involved.
The award was the Terry Fox Run 2017 Milestone Award. The Rotary Club’s Betty VandenBosch saluted the participants and the organizers saying, “In coming together, our participants and the many people, who make donations to them, are keeping Terry Fox’s dream alive. The Rotary Clubs thank all of the volunteers.”
