CORNWALL — The Williamsburg Junior Senior Pioneers played their final game of the season this past Wednesday as they travelled to Cornwall to take on Cornwall #1.
Cornwall 10 Pioneers 7: The Williamsburg Junior Senior Pioneers travelled to Cornwall on Wed., July 18, to take on the Cornwall #1 in the Upper Canada Little League. The Pioneers had a chance to finish in first place with a victory but a loss would mean they would finish in second place.
The Pioneers got off to a good start scoring three runs in the top of the first inning but left two runners in scoring position. Cornwall answered with five runs in the top of the first taking a 5-3 lead into the second inning.
The Pioneers got three runners on base in the top of the second inning but were unable to score leaving the bases loaded. Cornwall took advantage scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The Pioneers scored a single in the top of the third inning but Cornwall answered with a single in the bottom half of the inning taking an 8-4 lead.
The Pioneers got to within two after scoring a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning but again, Cornwall matched the two runs taking a 10-6 lead into the fifth inning. The Pioneers scored a single but three consecutive were struck out.
Cornwall ended the game with a 10-7 victory. With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to second place heading into the the Upper Canada Little League Championship on the weekend of July 27-29 in Cornwall.
Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Dean Lapier with two including a home run and Nolan Henry, Brendan Shaver, Brayden Barrie, Mclean Machan and Olivia Mudde all scored singles.
