INGLESIDE – The Ingleside Firefighter Association hosted the celebration of Ingleside’s 60th anniversary at the shopping plaza on Sat., July 21. The event featured a fun day of free activities for all ages. “We had a wonderful day for our Celebration 60 Event. The community came out in droves to enjoy the day’s activities,” said event organizer and Ingleside resident Jennifer MacIsaac.
For the children, there were inflatables by Bubble Bounce, pony rides by Mellow Meadows Equestrian and a children’s firefighter challenge. The actual firefighters performed a car extraction demonstration and old equipment was on display for residents to see. A big part of the annual event was missing this year however. The firefighter challenge, that hosted firefighters from across the region to compete in a gruelling course was no longer part of the day. This is in some part due to the event becoming less popular over the years.
Music from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. featured The Shiners, Kilts, Riffs and Spurs, and Hadrian’s Wall. The day also supplied a barbecue from the Schneiders Foodland Community Cruiser in the afternoon and Twisted Kitchen Food Trailer during the evening entertainment.
The event raised money throughout the day, the dunk tank itself was a big hit and raised roughly $600 and the Sheider’s Foodland Cruiser raised $1,100. At the opening ceremonies Mayor Jim Bancroft spoke to the crowd and then was presented with a $5,000 cheque from the Celebration 60 committee on behalf of the Ingleside Firefighters’ Association. The contribution will be donated to the Township of South Stormont for the splash pad scheduled to be completed in August.
“It was wonderful to see our South Stormont residents and visitors come and celebrate the 60th anniversary of our community. So much community pride was shown this Saturday and the organizing committee members were quite pleased with the response and to learn about the many people from away who traveled home to attend our event. None of this would be possible without the support of over forty local businesses and organizations who sponsored the event and made it possible for us to offer free children’s activities all day and three great bands with no cover charge. A big thank you goes out to all of the wonderful student volunteers as well as Ingleside Fire Department members and their families who volunteered their time to provide a great experience for our guests,” summed up MacIsaac.
