WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg Major White Pioneers played two games this past week as they travelled to Kemptville on Monday night to take on the Blue Wildcats and welcomed the Kemptville Purple Wildcats on Thursday night.
Pioneers 13 Wildcats 3: The Williamsburg Major White Pioneers welcomed the Kemptville Purple Wildcats to the J. C. Whitteker Ball Park on Thurs., June 14, in the Upper Canada Little league. The Pioneers were coming off a wild win in Kemptville over the Blue Wildcats as they seesawed back and forth squeaking one out 16-15.
The Wildcats took the lead scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Pioneers scored a single in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit in half 2-1. The Wildcats went three up and three down in the top of the second inning and the Pioneers took advantage scoring two runs to take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second.
The Wildcats went three up and three down again in the top of the third inning and again the Pioneers made them pay scoring the maximum five runs in the bottom of the third taking a 9-2 lead.
The Wildcats added a single in the top of the fourth but the Pioneers scored four more in the bottom of the fourth taking the game 13-3.
Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Mason Hummel, Dawson Coleman, Tyson Wilhelm and Marty McLeod each with two and Travis Faulkner, Luke Byvelds, Ashable Weegar, Caleb Machan and Logan Tait scoring singles.
Pioneers 16 Wildcats 15: The Williamsburg Major White Pioneers travelled to the Riverside Ball Park in Kemptville to take on the Blue Wildcats on Mon., June 11, in the Upper Canada Little League. The White Pioneers were coming off a big win over the Green Pioneers in their previous game and looked to tie their brother team in the standings with a win.
The Pioneers’ bats were ringing early scoring the maximum five runs in the top of the first inning but their defence let them down in the bottom of the inning allowing five runs against. The Pioneers retook the lead scoring a single in the top of the second taking a 6-5 lead.
The Wildcats battled right back scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to make it 7-6. The Pioneers added another five spots in the top of the third retaking the lead 11-7 but the Wildcats cut that lead to one scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.
The Pioneers scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it 16-10. The Wildcats had an open inning where they are allowed to score as many runs as they could but the Pioneers’ defence held them to just five taking the game 16-15.
Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Tyson Wilhelm with three, Dawson Coleman, Marty McLeod and Luke Byvelds, and Mason Hummel, Alek Laroque, Travis Faulkner, Jacob Zandbergen, Ashable Weegar, Caleb Machan and Logan Tait all scored singles.
