CHESTERVILLE—The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League kicked off their 2018 campaign on Thus., April 26, with two games as Red welcomed Yellow in the early game and Blue played host to Green in the nightcap.
Yellow 5 Red 0: In the first game of the evening, Red welcomed Yellow. Yellow jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead in both team’s inaugural meeting of the season. Yellow added two more in the second period to take a 4-0 lead into the third period. Red’s offence struggled in the third period as well but Yellow scored an insurance marker to take the game 5-0.
Scoring for Yellow were: Lindsay Waddell with a hat trick and Jessica Winters with a pair. Picking up the assists were Janice Casselman and Laura Melenhorst with three each and Waddell, Jackie Morris and Alannah McRae with singles. Picking up the shutout in Yellow’s goal was Julia Shaver.
Blue 3 Green 0: In the second game on the slate, Blue played host to Green. Blue opened the scoring with two first-period goals and added a another in the second period taking a 3-0 lead into the third period. The two teams battled to a scoreless draw in the third allowing Blue to pick up their first win of the season 3-0. Blue and Yellow tie for first place after the first week of competition.
Scoring for Blue were: Carly Crump with two goals and Anna Fawcett with a single and picking up the assists were: Sam Benoit with two, Jaclyn Crump, Lindsay Cummins and Fawcett with singles.
Up next: In the second week of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League, Yellow welcomes Blue on Thurs., May 3, in the first game at 7 p.m. and in the second Red plays Green at 8 p.m.
