HAMMOND—The St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School Ravens’ Intermediate Girls’ basketball team travelled to St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School on Wed., April 11, for a three-team round robin in PRSSAA. The Ravens’ first game was against the home team, Falcons, in the morning and their second game was played against the Russell High School T-Wolves in the afternoon.
Ravens 36 Falcons 9: In their first game of the three-team round robin, the Ravens were the visitors to the home team Falcons. This was the season opener for both teams. The Ravens got off to a good start scoring 16 first-half points and defensively holding the Falcons to just three. The Ravens took the 13-point lead into the dressing room at the half.
The Ravens totally dominated on both sides of the court offensively and defensively, the second half scoring 20 more points and holding the Falcons to just six points taking their first game of the year with a convincing 36-9 victory.
Scoring for the Ravens were: Kate Landriault with 10 points, Emma Gabriel and Riely Daniell each scored six, Zoë Bols, Emma Gaudette, and Rachel Drevniok each with four and Makenzie Campbell with a deuce.
Ravens 54 T-Wolves 13: In their second game of the day/season, the Ravens were the home team as they welcomed their crosstown rivals, the Russell High School T-Wolves. The Ravens looked to make it 2-0 on the day after they beat the Falcons convincingly in the first game 36-9.
The Ravens picked up where they left off scoring 20 first-quarter points and holding the T-Wolves to just two. The Ravens added another 14 points in the second quarter allowing the T-Wolves only two taking a 34-4 lead into the break at halftime.
The T-Wolves played their best quarter of the game but the Ravens still doubled them 14-7 making it a 48-11 game heading into the final quarter. The Ravens added another six points and the T-Wolves were only allowed a deuce in the fourth quarter.
The Ravens took the game by a score of 54-13 picking up their second win of the season.
Scoring for the Ravens were: Emma Gabriel with 16 points, Emma Gaudette with 10, Rachel Drevnoik and Kate Landriault with six each, Makenzie Campbell and Zoe Bols each with four and Emily Way, Carleigh Barwick, Riely Daniell and Annie Morgan all scored deuces.
Scoring for the T-Wolves were: Megan Nolan with five points, Abby Boszormeny with four and Kassandra Stevenson and Mackenzie Belisle each scored deuces.
