ROCKLAND — The St. Thomas Aquinas Ravens senior girl’s soccer team travelled to L’Éscale Catholic Secondary School in Rockland for the PRSSA championship tournament on Mon., Oct. 23. The Ravens won all six of their regular second games and opened the tournament against the L’Éscale Cougars in a one-game showdown.
The Ravens took down the Cougars and headed for the finals against the defending champions, the École secondaire catholique Le Relais Rapids from Alexandria. The Ravens faced the Rapids the previous week at the Ravens’ nest which, according to their Co-Coach, Shawn Benoit, “It was the highlight game being the last one before playoffs vs. Le Relais again.” The Ravens won that game in front of a cheering home crowd 4-3.
There was more on the line in this matchup, however, as they vie for the PRSSAA Championship. It was a hard fought emotional battle but when the smoke cleared the Ravens came out on top with a 2-1 victory to claim the championship.
Co-Coaches Benoit and Kara Barrie said they were were truly proud of the way the girls played and look forward to contending at EOSSAA in the spring.
