CHESTERVILLE — In the third and last round of the round-robin format of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League (CWBHL), second-place Red welcomed fourth-place Black on Thursday night at the Chesterville Arena. In the night cap. first-place Blue played host to third-place Yellow.
Red 5 Black 4
In the first game of the evening in the CWBHL on Thurs., Aug. 10, the league’s second-place team Red welcomed the fourth-place Black squad. Red dropped their previous game to the first-place Blue 2-0 but looked to hold the second seed heading into the championship next week.
Red needed a win for the right to face Blue in the A final as both Red and Yellow were tied in the round robin with a win apiece. Black with a win would make it a three-way tie for second place in the round robin. Black opened the scoring at 11:40 of the first period as Jessica Winters slammed one home from Selena Shane to take a 1-0 lead.
Black made it 2-0 when Winters scored her second of the game with just 2:21 remaining in the opening frame. Red broke their goose egg with just 1:20 remaining as Lesley Ann Tupper fired one home unassisted. Black took a 2-1 advantage to the second period. Red knotted the affair at two when Lindsay Feely snuck one to the back of the net from Tupper at 16:35 of the second period.
The teams took the two-all draw into the third period. Red took their first lead of the game when Geena Rose snapped one to the back of the net from Tupper at 5:34 of the the third period. Black tied the game again at 10:18 as Kaila Beckstead batted one home from Winters to make it three all.
Red restored their one-goal lead just 42 seconds later as Tupper lit the lamp for the second time in the game from Janice Casselman making it 4-3. With time winding down in regulation, Black’s Amy Bekkers sniped one from Beckstead and Alyson Erwin with just 40 seconds showing on the clock in regulation.
Neither team was able to score for the remainder of regulation so the game headed to a sudden-death overtime period. In the overtime, Red broke the stalemate as Tupper completed her hat trick unassisted at 2:48 to take the game 5-4 and move on to take on the first-place Blue team in the A championship.

Blue 3 Yellow 1
In the second game of the night, first-place Blue welcomed the third-seeded Yellow team. Yellow needed a win to remain in contention after Red defeated Black in the previous game if they wanted another crack at Blue in next week’s A championship. Blue had two wins in the round robin and secured the top seed in the A championship.
Yellow opened the scoring when Jenny Wright snapped one home from Patti Hall and Alannah McRae at 15:50 of the first period taking a 1-0 lead. With time winding down in the opening frame, Blue tied the game as Cinnamon Boulanger blasted one home from Lindsay Cummins with just 42 seconds remaining in the opening frame to tie the game at one.
The teams took the one-all draw into the second period. Blue took their first lead of the game when Sam Benoit snapped one to the back of the net from Carly Crump and Jaclyn Crump at 16:44 of the second period.
Blue took a slim 2-1 lead in the final frame. Yellow kept the pressure on but was not able to get one to go but at 13:37 Blue made it 3-1 as Carly Crump slipped one to the back of the net from Benoit and Jaclyn Crump. Blue hung on for the 3-1 victory and will move on to face Red in the A final next week.
Yellow will play Black for the B championship. Picking up the win in Blue’s goal was Roxanne Crump.
