MORRISBURG – A new event sparked a lot of interest among participants at the Morrisburg Tubie Festival, which ran in the village on Sat., Aug. 5, and Sun., Aug. 6. The First Annual Tubie Triathlon on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. attracted 20 participants and a crowd of enthusiastic spectators. The non-competitive triathlon, which included swimming, biking and running, was just for fun.
“We’ll have it again next year for sure,” said organizer Geraldine Fitzsimmons, general manager of the South Dundas Chamber of Commerce. “We were really happy.” She reported being happy in general about the weekend, which was windy but sunny.
This year’s parade on Saturday afternoon had a Canada 150 theme, with all nine Tubie teams vying for best float. Winners were: 1st – Canal Experience entered by Jordan St. Louis; 2nd – Cool Tubie Canadian entered by Jeff Barkley; and 3rd – Hockey Night in Morrisburg, entered by Katherine Lee.
The band Big Hammer played for the dance that night and a refreshment garden ran throughout the weekend. The Tubie Race on Sunday at noon drew a good crowd of both entrants and spectators. The winners were: Katherine Lee’s team, Jeff Barkley’s team and Sage Barkley’s team.
