Rural roots evident at Navan Fair

NAVAN – One of the biggest local fairs opens tomorrow, Thurs., Aug. 10, as Navan celebrates its 72nd annual Navan Fair.
As usual, it features live entertainment under the Domes all weekend long, including Honeymoon Suite on Friday night, Brea Lawrenson on Saturday, and Kira Isabella on Sunday, along with many other musical guests.
Special events offered this year are the PC Superdogs Show, a musket demonstration by the 78th Fraser Highlanders following the parade on Saturday, several shows by comedy stunt ventriloquist Tim Holland, Midway Toonie Thursday when any Robertson’s Amusements rides are $2, and pay-one-price Bracelet Day on Friday ($30).
As well, returning crowd favourites are the demolition derbies on both Thursday and Friday night; Kids Derby at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening; heavy, light and western horse shows; a multitude of displays and exhibits in categories such as agricultural, home craft, culinary arts, floriculture; beef and dairy cattle competitions; antique machinery and tractor display; the ever-popular truck and tractor pulls; and a parade beginning at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday.
