The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League kicked off their night on Thurs., June 14, with Red welcoming Blue at the Chesterville Arena. CHESTERVILLE — The Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League kicked off their evening with first-place Blue taking on Red in their first game of the night this past Thursday. In the second game of the night, Yellow welcomed Black in a battle for third place.
Blue 5 Red 1
In the first game of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League on Thurs., June 15, Red welcomed Blue at the Chesterville Arena. Blue went into the game in first place six points ahead of Red and Yellow and looked to rebound after losing their first game of the season the previous week.
Blue opened the scoring at 4:15 into the first period when Sam Benoit scored an unassisted goal to make it 1-0. Blue made it 2-0 at 10:30 as Rebecca Kennedy snapped one home from Jaclyn Crump and Lindsay Cummins.
Just 18 seconds later Blue struck again. This time it was Carly Crump pounding one home from Cummins. Blue closed out the scoring in the opening frame with just 15 seconds remaining as Jaclyn Crump slid one home from Kennedy and took a 4-0 lead into the second period.
Red got one back in the second period as Catia Dias slipped one to the back of the net unassisted at 9:15. Blue took a 4-1 lead into the third period. Red tried hard to get closer but Blue’s goalie Roxanne Crump held their attack at bay. Blue made it 5-1 when Cummins fired one to the back of the net from Jaclyn Crump and Benoit at 14:10.
Blue hung on for their seventh win of the season and their stranglehold on first place. Blue’s goalie Roxanne Crump picked up the win in goal.
Yellow 2 Black 1
In the second game of the night Yellow played host to Black. Black was coming off a big victory over first-place Blue the previous week and looked to carry the momentum with a victory over Yellow. Yellow sat in a two-way tie with Red in second place just two points ahead of Black.
Black opened the game at 6:11 of the first period when Jessica Winters powered one to the back of the cage from Sam Naish and Heather Cook Erwin to take a 1-0 lead. Neither team was able to put up a marker for the remainder of the first period.
Yellow tied the game at 9:48 of the second period as Shannon McRae sniped one from Amber Saddlemire and Alecia Jones. The two teams took a 1-1 stalemate into the third period.
Yellow took their first lead of the game when Jodi Hall scored an unassisted goal at 9:01 of the third period taking a 2-1 lead. Black tried for the equalizer but Yellow’s goalie Cashelle Baldwin held the fort as Yellow took the game 2-1 and moved into sole possession of second place.
Picking up the win in Yellow’s goal was Baldwin, her fourth of the season.
