CHESTERVILLE — The Williamsburg Major Green Pioneers were supposed to play two games this past week as they travelled to Chesterville on Thursday night to take on the Winchester Black Sox but their game Friday night in Kemptville against the #3 Wildcats was postponed due to rain.
Pioneers 20 Black Sox 11
The Williamsburg Major Green Pioneers travelled to the Chesterville Ball Diamond to take on the Winchester Black Sox on Thurs., June 1, in the Upper Canada Little League. The Pioneers struck first scoring five runs in the top of the first inning and their defence held the Black Sox off the board in the bottom of the inning taking a 5-0 lead into the second.
The Pioneers’ offence kept rolling in the top of the second inning scoring another five runs and their defence again held the Black Sox to just three batters none of whom made it to first base in the bottom of the inning. The Pioneers scored two more runs in the top of the third inning but the Black Sox answered with five runs in the bottom of the third but trailed 12-5 heading into the fourth inning.
The Pioneers added another two runs in the top of the fourth but the Black Sox scored another four runs to make it a 14-9 ball game. The Pioneers unleashed their bats again in the top of the fifth inning scoring six runs. The Black Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth but it wasn’t enough as the Pioneers took the game 20-11.
Scoring the runs for the Pioneers were Wyatt Rivet, Marty McLeod and Monty Dejong each scored three, Alek Larocque, Caleb Machan, Quade Mullin, Devon Elliott and Chloe Young with two each and James Martens with a single.
