CHESTERVILLE — Red welcomed Blue in a battle of the unbeaten teams in the first game of the evening of the Chesterville Women’s Ball Hockey League at the Chesterville Arena on Thurs., May 4, and Yellow took on Black.
Blue 2 Red 1
In the first game of the night, Red took on Blue. Red was coming off a 4-0 win over Yellow the previous week and looked to remain undefeated while Blue squeaked past Black 5-4 in their season opener.
Blue opened the scoring with 1:19 remaining in the first period as Lindsay Cummins scored from Carly Crump to take a 1-0 lead. Blue made it 2-0 when Anna Fawcett slapped one home from Cummins and Jaclyn Crump at 11:32 of the second period. Blue took the 2-0 lead into the final frame but Red got to within one as Lindsay Feeley batted one home from Lesley Ann Tupper at 10:48 of the third period.
Red pushed to tie the game but Blue was having none of it as they hung on for the 2-1 victory. Picking up the win in Blues’ goal was Roxanne Crump.
Yellow 1 Black 1
In the second game of the night Yellow welcomed Black. Both teams suffered losses in their openers as Yellow dropped a 4-0 loss to Red and Black suffered one-goal loss to Blue 5-4 in their opener. The two teams battled to a scoreless first period but Yellow took their first lead of the season when Lindsay Waddell sniped one from Patti Hall at 6:40 of the second period.
It looked as though Yellow was heading to the third period with a 1-0 lead but Black tied the game with just 1:12 remaining in the middle frame as Kaila Beckstead scored an unassisted goal. The two teams traded scoring chances but neither were able to net the winner as they settled for a one-all draw.
Yellows’ goalie Cashelle Baldwin and Blacks’ goalie split the points after both held their teams to just a single goal.

In the first game of the night in week three, Red welcomes Black on Thurs., May 11, at 7 p.m. Yellow welcomes Blue in the second game at 8 p.m.
