MORRISBURG – The ServiceOntario Centre and Land Registry Office here will remain open according to a news bulletin from the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services released on Feb.16. A government decision not to close “the ServiceOntario centres in the communities of Mississauga, Terrace Bay, Milton, Guelph, Morrisburg, Embrun, Minden, Kemptville and Blind River.”
When reached for comment, Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry MPP Jim McDonell pointed out how “With the help of public pressure, we were able to show the Wynne Liberals the importance of local access to government services”. McDonell pointed out “rural residents should not have to drive long distances” to access key government services which “are not available through the non-governmental offices.”
South Dundas Mayor Evonne Delegarde commented how “Maintaining this location will ensure the best service to their customers and will provide a much-needed local service to our South Dundas residents, businesses and organizations who would have otherwise had to travel to Prescott, Winchester or Cornwall.” Delegarde described this as “a win-win-win situation for ServiceOntario, South Dundas and the public.”
The Municipality of South Dundas owns the building located at 8-5th Street West in Morrisburg, having purchased it from the United Counties of SDG in 2016. Delegarde said the Municipality had “recently signed a five-year lease agreement with ServiceOntario for this location with an option for a five-year lease extension.”
The ServiceOntario Centre and Land Registry Office in Morrisburg is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
